Today, COL JAPAN, the Japanese subsidiary of COL Group, officially launched UniReel, a short drama streaming app designed for the Japanese market. Alongside the app’s debut, its first original series—produced in collaboration with Nippon TV—also premiered on the platform.

The inaugural project on UniReel is “The Last Lesson: Only Survivors Graduate”, the first full-length campus-themed suspense short drama in the genre’s history. Starring Japanese pop idol Yusei Yagi, the series tells the chilling story of a teacher named Maruyama who, after losing his lover, locks his entire third-year F-class in the music room on the eve of graduation. What begins as a “final lesson” turns into a deadly survival game.

UniReel is built on the concept of “filling idle time with powerful stories,” aiming to elevate Japanese short dramas to global standards. It aspires to become the largest short drama platform in Japan. In September 2024, COL JAPAN announced the formation of a dedicated vertical short drama committee in partnership with LINE Yahoo, Hakuhodo, and HUUM. The four companies will combine their strengths across platform development, content production, and operations to jointly create high-quality, original short dramas for the Japanese audience.

Beyond short dramas, COL JAPAN is also expanding its collaborations with local creators in fields such as animation, webtoons, and light novels, working together to bring compelling entertainment—and Chinese cultural IP—to global markets.
